Surface Area Master: Exploded View

The Mission:

Calculate the total surface area of a 3D prism! You must "explode" the 3D shape into its flat 2D parts to calculate the area of each section one by one.


Math Skills:

  • Surface Area: Finding the total area of all faces on a 3D prism.

  • 2D Area Calculation: Calculating areas for rectangles (L×W) and triangles (Base×Height÷2).

  • Nets of Solids: Visualizing how 3D objects unfold into flat 2D nets.


How to Play:

  1. Inspect the 3D prism. Click the Part Buttons (e.g., Top, Bottom, Lateral) to "explode" that specific section away from the main shape.

  2. Once a part is exploded, an input box will appear. Calculate the area for that specific part and type it in.

  3. Click Submit. If correct, the part turns green. Repeat this for all the remaining parts of the prism.

  4. When all parts are solved, a success panel reveals the total surface area. Click the Next button to tackle a new 3D shape!
